COMENTARIO PERSONAL/REVIEW
Leyendo el título del libro y conociendo como conocemos el cuento de la Bella Durmiente nos hacemos una idea de la historia, pero solo leyendo y profundizando en esta historia nos damos cuenta de que habla de arriesgarse, tomar decisiones que fácilmente otros podrían tomar por nosotros y luchar por lo que uno cree, aunque suponga poner en peligro la vida.
Nuestra bella durmiente particular es Lucette, un bebé que es maldecido en su “bautismo” por la reina vampiro del cercano reino de Sanguinia, por no haber sido invitada a la fiesta. Cuando cumpla dieciséis años, Lucette se pinchará un dedo, caerá dormido y a partir de entonces, ella dormirá de día y el resto de habitantes de Xandra lo hará de noche, no manteniendo así la princesa contacto alguno con nadie. Esta maldición solo desaparecerá si ella encuentra el verdadero amor.
Por este motivo, Lucette vive desde pequeña un infierno en el que debe aprender a evitar contacto con cosas puntiagudas. Su padre la obliga a llevar guantes constantemente y ha prohibido cualquier utensilio que pueda dañar a su hija.
La Lucette de trece años que conocemos al principio de la historia lo tendrá complicado pues ni es guapa ni femenina, pero tiene una personalidad muy fuerte y está decidida a seguir adelante. Tal vez es su determinación es lo que hace pronto consiga ser entrenada por un hábil joven de la comarca. Pero lo que para ella es amor, para Tristan es simple trabajo. Tres años después, ambos pierden contacto y esta vez Lucette conoce a un chico pero no cree que sea su alma gemela. En cambio, Alex cree que puede ayudarla a romper la maldición, pero en el fondo hay viejas rencillas y lazos que los unen, y que descubrirán poco a poco en su aventura.
Durante la historia veremos que es posible elegir entre dos opciones para seguir con la historia pero al final todas nos llevan al mismo final. Una historia muy bien narrada y en la que la autora parece querer decirnos que no importa que decisiones tomemos porque el destino está escrito y se cumplirá. Otro tópico de los cuentos de hadas.
También aparecen reflejos de una época antigua en la que predominaba el machismo y no había igualdad de oportunidades para las mujeres. Lo vemos por ejemplo cuando Lucette quiere aprender a luchar como cazavampiros y en la academia solo enseñan a las mujeres a ser simples cebos a la espera de que un cazavampiros hombre haga aparición. También en el comportamiento excesivamente sobreprotector de su padre y en la actitud de algunos de sus pretendientes.
En general, el libro me ha gustado y nos saca del típico cuento de hadas donde la princesa es la débil y el príncipe acude a su rescate.
After reading the title of the book and knowing the story of Sleeping Beauty, we get an idea of the plot, but only reading and deepening in this story we realize that it talks about taking risks, having decisions that other people can take for us and fight for what one believes, though it does endanger the life.
Our proper Sleeping Beauty is Lucette, a baby who is cursed in her “baptism” by the vampire queen from the nearest kingdom of Sanguinia, because of not being invited to the party. When she is 16 years old, Lucette will prickle a finger, she will fall slept and, since then, she will sleep daylight and the rest of habitants of Xandra will do it at night, being the princess completely alone. This curse will disappear only if she finds the true love.
For this reason, Lucette, since she was younger, lives a hell where she must learn to avoid contact with sharp things. Her father obliges her to wear gloves constantly and he has prohibited whatever can hurt to her daughter.
Thirteen-year-old Lucette, who appears at the beginning of the story, will have it complicated because she is neither pretty nor feminine, but she has a very strong personality and she is determined to go on. Maybe it is her decision what makes her being trained by a skilled young man of the region. But what she senses like love, for Tristan is only a job. Three years after, both of them lose the contact and, this time, Lucette meet a young man who she does not believe he is her soulmate. On the other hand, Alex believes can help her to break the curse, but there are old family squabbles and bonds that join them, and they will discover in their adventure little by little.
During the story, we will have the opportunity of choosing between two options to follow with the story but eventually all of them finish in a same end. It is a very good told story where the author wants to tell us it is not important what decision you take because the fate is written and it will become true. Here we have other cliché from fairytales.
Also it appears some reflections of Middle Age where it was usual the sexism and there were no equality of opportunities for the women. We can see, for instance, when Lucette wants to learn fight as a vampire slayer and the academy only teach how to be a bait for the men vampire slayers. Besides, it is the excessively protective behaviour of her father and the attitude of some suitors.
In general, I liked the book and it gets out of the typical fairytale where the princess is weak and the Prince saves her.
